NEW HOUSE IN HOUGHTON ESTATE
RESIDENTIAL
The guiding premise for this new home was a need for spatial generosity and comfortable suburban living. This stems from wishes by the client for a luxurious grand access with a theatrical stair, an open plan kitchen-family room, a generous entertainment patio for large and extended family gatherings, and a large size main bedroom-bathroom en-suite with a walk-in closet ‘to indulge in’. Framed by beautiful, established trees, this traditional-looking, stately house sits to the front of a large stand, leaving a spacious garden and manicured lawn at the back for children to play in and for adults to enjoy the view.
Generous natural lighting via windows, and clerestories in the entrance hall, careful orientation of living spaces and detailing of the building envelope with insulated cavity walls and ceiling spaces, a solar domestic water heating system and water-radiators for space heating, boosted by gas-power on demand all form part of a design strategy for good environmental performance of the building. Timber-clad columns, engineered timber with brushed oak finish on stair treads, timber window assemblies and marble floors contribute to a finishing palette of beautiful natural materials, and a living environment of quality and elegance.
